Big Ridge PTA

Big Ridge Elementary PTA

Dear Big Ridge Elementary Families,Welcome to what is sure to be another outstanding year at Big Ridge Elementary School. Last year, our PTA was able to accomplish some great things, such as funding our Visual Art Instruction but also support all other enhancements.  I am eager to work alongside Mrs. Askins, the Big Ridge staff, the PTA Board, volunteers, and all Big Ridge Families to meet our primary PTA goal of assuring a quality education and nurturing environment for every child.  There are many ways that you can help too.   One way we will help accomplish this is through volunteerism. I encourage all parents and family members to volunteer at some point during the school year, even if you just have one hour.  Everyone has talents, and I challenge you to find out where you can share your talents at our school. Be on the lookout for volunteer opportunities throughout the year. There is always something to do and you will be pleasantly surprised at how much you enjoy it!The PTA also works to provide a quality education through tangible improvements within our school.  We will continue to focus on the following objectives for the upcoming year:

  • Funding the Visual Art Instructor
  • Continuing Technology Enhancements
  • Hosting Family Learning opportunities
  • Providing Literacy Support as needed

To fund these and many other enhancements to our school, we will rely on monetary donations by Big Ridge supporters through the continuation of our Bulldog Benefactor program and Run Walk a Thon event.   Although we strive to limit the number of large scale fundraisers throughout the year, product sales may be used to fill any fundraising gaps.I know that the partnership between the Big Ridge Staff, Big Ridge PTA, and Big Ridge Families will make this school year an amazing one for all of our Big Ridge Bulldogs!

Sincerely,

Julie Floyd

About PTAAs the largest volunteer child advocacy association in the nation, the national Parent Teacher Association (PTA) reminds our country of its obligations to children. It provides parents and families with a powerful voice to speak on behalf of every child, while providing the best tools for parents to help their children be successful students.Mission, Vision & ValuesMembership is open to anyone who believes in the Mission and Purposes of the national Parent Teacher Association. Individual members may belong to any number of PTAs and pay dues in each. Every person who joins a local PTA automatically becomes a member of both the state and national PTAs.Together we are a powerful voice for children.  With your help, we can continue to work toward PTA's goal of a quality education and nurturing environment for every child. PTA Vision: What the future will look like if PTA accomplishes its mission.  Making every child's potential a reality.PTA Mission: the overall purpose of PTA

  • A powerful voice for all children,
  • A relevant resource for families and communities, and
  • A strong advocate for the education and well-being of every child.

PTA Values: What PTA stands forCollaboration: We work in partnership with a wide array of individuals and organizations to accomplish our agreed-upon goals.

Commitment: We are dedicated to promoting children's health, well-being, and educational success through strong parent, family, and community involvement.

Accountability: We acknowledge our obligations. We deliver on our promises.

Respect: We value our colleagues and ourselves. We expect the same high quality of effort and thought from ourselves as we do from others.

Inclusivity: We invite the stranger and welcome the newcomer. We value and seek input from as wide a spectrum of viewpoints and experiences as possible.

Integrity: We act consistently with our beliefs. When we err, we acknowledge the mistake and seek to make amends.

Why Join the PTA  The number one reason to join the Parent Teacher Association is to benefit your child. In doing so, you also help your school. But there are many more advantages. Here are just a few:
  • Get Connected. There's no better way to know what's happening in your school.

  • Discover Great Resources. The PTA offers a variety of programs designed for parents as well as students.

  • Tap into a Network. Parenting is not easy-it helps to share ideas, concerns and experiences with other parents and educators in the community. PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, building rapport and discussing issues that are on your mind.

  • Watch Yourself Grow. By volunteering with your PTA, you gain valuable experiences. It's an opportunity to put your skills and hobbies to good use for a good cause-your child and all children in the community.

  • Speak Up. Because the PTA is a forum for exchanging ideas, you are encouraged to make suggestions. PTA can be a way for you to more effectively suggest change at your child's school.

  • Witness Improvement. By getting involved at your child's school you'll be part of the solution, helping make positive changes. Local PTAs play an important role in fundraising to provide building improvements, curriculum-based programs, and social events-all vital to a school's success.

  • Be a Role Model. By becoming a PTA member, you'll be demonstrating to your child the importance you place on education.

  • Enjoy Substantial Benefits. Individuals and local units can take advantage of a host of benefits from PTA membership, including discounts and offers from member benefits providers and sponsors, magazine subscriptions, leadership training, e-newsletters, and much more. Bulldog Benefactors Program & Fundraising

Big Ridge Elementary PTA is a 501(c) organization.  We hold events to raise funds throughout the year that will allow us to monetarily support Big Ridge Elementary school. We will continue to focus on donations in lieu of large-scale fundraisers to help us achieve our goals this year. These include:

  • Bulldog Benefactor Program- Families have an opportunity to provide a "family donation" by reaching out to family and friends to support our school. Additionally, families are encouraged to reach out to businesses for Corporate Sponsorships that give these businesses advertisement in our PTA newsletter, website, and in the school's inspirational wall mural.
  • Run-Walk-a-thon - This is our annual Run-Walk-a-thon where we give students an opportunity to raise money and participate in a healthy activity at the same time. Students seek out donors who either give a lump sum donation or a "per lap" donation for the student's participation in this event.
  • Buddy's BooFest- Fall Carnival community event
  • Fundraisers - Throughout the year, we may choose to hold fundraisers, such as a basket auction, "dollar-day sales", and t-shirt sales to also contribute to our monetary goals.

PTA Resource Room Our PTA Resource Room is located in the school gymnasium in the room just to left after entering. You are encouraged to visit this room and utilize the supplies located there.
