Dear Big Ridge Elementary Families,

Welcome - or welcome back - to Big Ridge Elementary School! On behalf of the board, I invite you to join our PTA. Big Ridge Elementary PTA is made up of folks just like you: parents, grandparents, teachers, administrators and community members who want to pitch in to make sure our school offers the best educational experience possible, primarily by filling in the gaps left where public funding falls short. This summer our PTA board identified several main goals for 2019-20: 1. To fully fund our Visual Art Program (again). 2. To make our family learning nights a richer experience for students and parents alike. 3. To maintain a fiscally healthy organization. 4. To communicate effectively with the Big Ridge community.

The plans within these goals are many, so I hope you will participate often in our PTA events and initiatives. Let PTA help you find the best way to participate.

Give your time: Whether you have an hour this year or an hour each week or something in between, there are opportunities to help on campus or at home. Our volunteer coordinator has a fit for you. I challenge you to give 1 hour more this year than before! Give your talent: Your skills can enhance the educational experience for our children or help our organization run smoothly. How can we plug you in? Give your resources: We all know that public funding simply doesn't go far enough to cover updated technology and classroom tools for learning, not to mention special learning opportunities. Your financial donations, and those you help secure from others and area businesses, go right into our school. We rely primarily on donations because 100% of those funds stay at Big Ridge.

This year PTA will support the following: Visual Art instructor's salary Classroom tools for each of our enhancement teachers Apple TV projection systems for 8 more classrooms (the first 10 were completed last year) STEAM Night, Fall Movie Night, Literacy Night for families Encouragement for teachers and staff (snack days, Teacher Appreciation Week and luncheon) Encouragement for students (student recognition, art contests, class parties)A school directory for all families Professional development support for teachers House and grounds maintenance and beautification Citizenship programs and drives

Fundraising Big Ridge Elementary PTA is a 501(c) organization. Events are held to raise funds throughout the year that will allow us to support Big Ridge Elementary School where public funding falls short. We will continue to focus on donations in lieu of large-scale fundraisers because 100% of donations stay at Big Ridge. These include: 1. Bulldog Benefactor Program- Families have an opportunity to provide a "family donation" by reaching out to family and friends to support our school. Additionally, all are encouraged to reach out to businesses for Corporate Sponsorships. These businesses receive recognition on our PTA Facebook page, our newsletter, website, and on the school's donor wall. 2. Buddy's Auction and Social - A family-fun event full of keepsakes and bargains alike. Supporters contribute goods or services for the auction and/or attend and bid. There's something for everyone. 3. Fundraisers - Short-term fund-raising events in the fall and spring (such as t-shirt sales or dollar days) contribute to our goals. We are grateful for businesses who partner with us for Spirit Sales, where they donate a portion of designated sales to the school.
